Squash Alberta Announces - New On-Court Towel Policy and updated On Court Cothing Policy

Oct. 27, 2023

In response to a recent number of concerns rising under the topics of on court towel use and  on court clothing/jewelry (safety issues) the Squash Alberta Board of Directors reviewed the issues presented and has developed the following policies to address them.  These policies come into effect immediately as of October 27, 2023.

To note:

1.   The On Court Towel Policy is new as of Oct 27, 2023 - the main purpose of the policy is to remove the ability of a player to delay play as a tactic for rest/recovery etc.

2.   The Clothing Policy has been updated as of Oct 27, 2023 to include guidance around jewelry being worn on court and gives the match official power to have players remove items if they are deemed to be a potential safety hazard to any/all players on court..  This new item is outlined in item “10” within the policy.

Our hope and intention is that these policies will remove potential issues for both players and officials during our sanctioned events while ensuring sportsmanship and player safety remain at the forefront of our great sport.

(To clarify, the following are defined as Sanctioned Squash Events in Alberta: Edmonton Squash League, Calgary InterClub Squash League, Grande Prairie Squash Club League, all squash leagues in Alberta that require a Squash Alberta membership to participate in and all Squash Alberta Sanctioned Tournaments.)

We thank everyone for taking the time to review these policies and for doing your best to keep our sport fun and safe.

The Squash Alberta Board of Directors
