Abdelrahman (Maan) Dweek of World Health Edgemont chose to compete in the Canadian and US Junior Open and not the British in his down year of Under 17. With a tough loss in 4 games in the semis of the Boys Under 17 of the Canadian Open his goal was to make the semis of the US Jr Open, the largest junior tournament in the World with 1000 players. When the draw came out, he knew that was a possibility, but would take 6 matches to make to the semis and he had been seeded 13/16. The round of 32 ended up being a very tough 3 - 0, and then followed up with a 5 game match in the quarters to an Egyptian he had never beaten before, made his goal more difficult. Maan was now set to play the same Egyptian he lost to in the semis of the Canadian and he managed to pull out a good win, again in 5 games. He had 4 hours to recover before his semi-final against a player for India. Maan came out with 2 very strong games and was up 2 - 0, but in the end, he started to struggle physically and lost 11-9 in the 5th. Abdelrahman placed 3rd in the Under 17 out of 128 players and now preparing for the 2nd half of the season.
